LAUSD Superintendent Michele King makes a "Listen and Learn Tour" stop at the L.A. Chamber

LAUSD Superintendent Michele King made a stop at the L.A. Chamber on Wednesday, March 23, as part of her "Listen and Learn Tour" engaging school, community, and civic stakeholders in the development of LAUSD's Strategic Plan.

"Early literacy is one of the biggest priorities I have....Our objective is to educate our kids early on, and have parents understand that value", King was quoted as saying.

She went on to say, "We need to help parents get the word out on why early education is important, because as of right now, the highest absentee rate we have is in Kindergarten. Parents appear to believe that early education is not as important as 2nd grade or 5th grade...We need to bring a common language and understanding to raise awareness amongst parents on why early education is important."
