In 2008, UNITE-LA launched the L.A. Compact, a bold commitment by cross-sector leaders in the L.A. region to close the education and workforce gaps caused by systemic inequities and racism. While initially formed as a collective response to a dropout crisis within LAUSD and to streamline student pathways between LAUSD, LACCD, and regional four-year institutions, the partnership grew in regional representation and scope over the past decade. As a neutral intermediary, the L.A. Compact has built trust tables transcending traditional siloes. As a result of our work, partners are developing strategies to align and improve education and workforce systems.
