Convened by UNITE-LA
Between 2009-20, the L.A. Compact Joint Advocacy Group promoted a united advocacy voice in Sacramento on issues impacting young people in the L.A. region. The Joint Advocacy Group is committed to uplifting quality education opportunities for ALL Angelenos so that youth in our region are able to pursue meaningful careers in a 21st century global workforce. The Joint Advocacy Group advocates for state and federal policies, investments, and institutional reforms that improve early learning, K-12 education, higher education, and workforce development systems and create increased opportunities for foster and formerly incarcerated youth. Through a trusted partnership, the Joint Advocacy Group works toward supporting an aligned educational system that provides quality education and workforce readiness to Los Angeles students. Over the years, JAG advocated for: Head Start funding, Title 1, Workforce Innovation & Opportunity Act, Higher Education Act, Pell Grants, Transitional Kindergarten, LCFF/LCAP, and policies that aim to dismantle the school to prison pipeline. They continue to influence policy and relationship/connection shifts in the education and workforce space.
