We are excited to have Amber Chatman join the L.A. Compact team as our new Director of Workforce Systems and Policy. In this role, Amber will lead strategies to increase the capacity of public workforce systems, build political will for equity-centered workforce strategies, and influence employer practices to improve economic mobility for opportunity youth and low-income workers.
Before joining UNITE-LA, Amber served as Postsecondary Success Manager at KIPP SoCal Public Schools. Her work there supported equity and diversity in employment through career exploration opportunities and education/training connections for Los Angeles youth. Prior to her work at KIPP, she held a role as Associate Director of YouthSource and Education Department at the nonprofit Youth Policy Institute, where she managed two YouthSource Centers through a public city/county partnership; these centers serve youth, ages 16-24, with career development, education preparedness and social supports. Amber's motivation is sustained by the love of community and the knowledge that when given the access to achieve, young adults are a force for strength and vitality for themselves, their families and their community.
Amber is a proud native of Los Angeles, growing up in the iconic South Central L.A. She holds a B.A. in Social Work from California State University, Los Angeles, and an M.A. in Public Administration from California State University, Northridge.
Fun fact: Amber is a real-life soccer mom of three! Any given weekend, she is on the soccer fields. Amber's email is [email protected].
