UNITE-LA recently completed a Transfer Community of Practice (CoP) with K-16 subregional convener and L.A. Compact partner Cal Poly Pomona (CPP). The CoP focused on enhancing transfer pathways and addressing equity gaps specific to the region, with a particular emphasis on supporting underrepresented students. Utilizing a design thinking process, CPP staff engaged in empathy interviews and collaborative ideation sessions to deeply understand the needs and challenges faced by transfer students.
CPP staff are now actively working on action plans to implement several key initiatives identified during the CoP. One initiative aims to address transfer student challenges in high-demand disciplines, focused on ensuring articulation and credit mobility requirements are accurate. Another initiative involves the development of a transfer-focused Canvas page for current and incoming transfer students, envisioned as a comprehensive resource hub, providing essential information on financial aid, transfer unit tracking, and career services.
Lastly, CPP plans to utilize L.A. Region K-16 Collaborative funds to hire a full-time transfer coordinator to innovate and strengthen delivery of transfer student services. We are looking forward to seeing the coordinator’s visions come-to life in the coming months.
