LA DEAL, with support from the California Emerging Technology Fund (CETF), helped 10 Los Angeles County municipalities — including South El Monte, Rosemead, Palmdale, Maywood, Los Angeles, Long Beach, Inglewood, Bellflower, Bell and Artesia — secure $200,000 in digital inclusion grants. Funds will allow each community to participate in a Local Government Best Practices Checklist Learning Community this fall.
Along with leaders from various Regional Broadband Consortia, LA DEAL participated in the application scoring, helping determine Learning Community participants and grant recipients. Municipal leaders selected for the Learning Community will discuss how we can collaborate and develop plans to reach low-income households, promoting broadband adoption through four live "Learning Community Sessions" moderated and facilitated by CETF and LA DEAL. Through LA DEAL, UNITE-LA's Digital Equity team will share and implement best practices to close the digital divide, promote digital inclusion, and achieve digital equity, serving as a model both state and nationwide.
